Ideally, the first 5 – 16 days are the perfect way to remember these special early days and gorgeous curly poses that can mimic the womb. I am a specialist newborn photographer in Mansfield, Nottingham, and I’d love to meet your new bundle of joy.

A TYPICAL NOTTINGHAM NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING…
In preparation for your newborn photography, I’ll ask you about your home and the style of photography you like so that your final photos are entirely bespoke and will be exactly what you want.
At your session, there will be a range of props, from hats and headbands to buckets and baskets, so we can make sure the photos match your style and interiors, and of course, you’re welcome to bring something ‘personal to you!’ Just let me know what it is beforehand.
You are welcome to include yourselves in some shots, and siblings are welcome too. We’ll discuss this all in advance, so I can prepare other props and advise you of what you might like to wear so you complement each other.

After the session?
After your session with me, a specialist newborn photographer in Mansfield, Nottingham, I know you will be keen to see some photos.
I aim to get a preview on social media within 48 hours, A fantastic way to tag and share with your family and friends
However, if you wish to keep your images private, this is no problem. Just inform me of this beforehand.
If you’re happy for me to put your sneaky peek on socials, then there could be a free print up for grabs for you, too – see the post for more details.
SOME ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
ALL PACKAGES BELOW INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING
- Consultation before the session to make your session as bespoke and personal to you as possible. It’s usually done over the phone or via messages. If you wish to come to the studio for a chat, then you’re welcome to.
– Everything is by appointment only. - Siblings and family together are encouraged at no extra cost.
- Allow around 4 hours for a newborn session in my studio, or it could be done in the comfort of your own home if your want a “fresh newborn” this is usually within the first 48 hours of the baby being born, props and backdrops will be limited (also a small charge to travel will apply, this is not always possible)
- Me, I’m a qualified specialist newborn photographer in Nottingham
- Complimentary bespoke session if you choose. We can discuss this more once you have booked.
- An abundance of patience.
- Use of all props and accessories I own within my studio.
- A face-to-face ordering and viewing by appointment to view your photographs.
- Editing and retouching your final photographs to the highest standard.

SO THIS IS HOW IT WORKS...
We will have an enjoyable session, capturing your beautiful Newborn baby to its fullest, after your session I will aim to get you a sneaky preview within 48 hours, its normally done via Facebook (if you allow me to and you could be in with a chance of winning that image as a FREE print).
You will then be invited back for the viewing and ordering appointment, normally within a few weeks of your session. Once you’ve viewed your gallery you’ll know what photographs you love and what you can envision in your home, in an album, or as a gift.
I have samples of almost everything I offer, so if you would like to see something just ask.
Once you have chosen the photographs that you want and how you wish to display them, I can then work my magic so they are ready for you to show off OR for you to enjoy all to yourself, but we can discuss all this at a later date.
There is a minimum order fee of £299.
The prices below are all-inclusive packages, I try to keep my prices as transparent as possible so there are no hidden costs.
You choose your package when you come for your face-to-face viewing and ordering appointment, this means you don’t have to decide or commit to a package until you have seen your photos.
There is a minimum 50% payment on all orders and the balance is paid before you collect your order.

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY SESSION?
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE SESSION?
Newborn sessions are relaxed and slow-paced as I work around your baby. Ideally, your baby will be awake when you arrive and eager for a big feed, so they are ready for a nice long sleep!
My style combines posed and more natural images of your baby using wraps, bonnets, hairbands, soft animals and hearts.
I also have bowls and buckets.
I will aim to photograph the baby in props and on my beanbag in various comfortable and safe poses.
If you don’t want any props then we can keep it super simple.
I HAD A C-SECTION AND I'M STILL SORE, HOW WILL I BE COMFORTABLE AT THE SESSION?
If mobility is an issue, please ensure you get someone to the session with you. I will have seating in my studio and lots of blankets that can be used to make you comfy should you need them.
If you need to raise your feet, I can provide a footstool, or if you have a unique cushion to sit on to alleviate pressure below, please bring this with you.
CAN MY OLDER CHILDREN BE IN THE PHOTOS?
Absolutely!
I love involving siblings in the photos, no matter how many babies have! The studio is only a small space, so we can discuss your individual situation upon booking as it may be preferable to have someone bring your other children towards the end, or at the beginning of the session to minimise disruption to the baby.
THE CAMERA ON MY PHONE IS QUITE GOOD, SO WHY HIRE A PROFESSIONAL?
Good question – Professional newborn photography is more than just the camera. It’s about patience, detail, styling and safety and requires years of experience. My expertise naturally translates to capturing the tiny and defining features of your baby that camera phones aren’t able to. I use the best lighting angles to enhance your baby’s features.
I also have special lenses to capture the tiniest details.
I do spend a lot of time on those small details, like, soothing your baby, straightening their fingers, crossing their feet, and positioning. Mums and Dads suffering from sleep deprivation don’t have the energy or awareness to do this. As someone who takes thousands of photos on my phone (I love photos), I know they are invaluable in capturing those fleeting or funny everyday moments. Still, they cannot replace quality, beautifully crafted imagery meant for the walls and albums, which is what professional photography will give you. Without you having to lift a finger, they will wow! You in a way that your phone can’t.
WHAT IF MY BABY WONT SETTLE?
If this was to happen it doesn’t tend to last the entire session, but if the baby does cry and no amount of soothing, changing, feeding and winding changes this, we can simply reschedule your session as it may be that they are coming down with something. More often, with some time, patience and perseverance all babies will settle and we will be able to create beautiful images – awake or asleep.
WHAT IF MY BABY HAS MARKS OR BABY ACNE - IS THAT A PROBLEM?
Although it may take longer to edit out any marks from their delivery such as forceps, scratches from little baby nails or flaky/spotty skin this is all part of the newborn editing process and will be delicately removed during post-processing.
I do tend to leave hands and feet with some flakes if they are quite flaky as I believe these are sweet details that are unique to your baby that will be lovely to look back on. When we meet we’ll discuss which elements of your baby you might want to show in the images and any you might want to be removed or softened.
HOW DO I RECEIVE MY ORDER?
Once your order has arrived and been checked I shall then get in touch with you to arrange collection by appointment. It may be possible for me to hand-deliver larger orders (if you are local) to prevent any damage. All will be discussed with you individually upon ordering
ARE YOUR NEWBORN SESSIONS SAFE?
Absolutely!
Your baby’s safety is my number one priority.
I will not put your baby into any poses that seem uncomfortable and always follow safety guidelines such as creating composites of images that look like the baby is supporting their own weight (which they never will be). I will handle your baby gently throughout and will not rush them at any time during the session. Not all babies are comfortable in every pose.
They can ‘squeak’ a little during some poses which are natural, however, if the baby shows any signs of discomfort, I would immediately disregard that pose. I maintain a watchful eye on their colouring, circulation and breathing to always ensure they are perfectly safe and happy.
HOW DO I PREP FOR MY SESSION?
You will receive a pre-guide, but just to give you a bit of information now – If you are breastfeeding, I advise Mum to avoid spicy/acidic/gassy food for 24 hours before the session.
Please try to keep your baby awake for as long as possible before your session, so that they are ready for a big feed upon arrival.
Please dress the baby in something easy to remove and keep their nappy as loose as possible to avoid marks on their skin.
DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?
I have a vast array of wraps, outfits and props which help create my style of imagery, which is presumably why you are thinking of booking me, so I will predominantly use these to create images you will love. I like to keep it simple and avoid using more significant probs, but we can discuss this before your session.
If you have anything that’s sentimental, something someone has brought you or perhaps something from your wedding day. A teddy or a favourite outfit/blanket, please bring them with you as we may be able to incorporate them into the shoot to create unique imagery that will be special to your family.
WILL YOU USE A DUMMY IN THE SESSION?
If we can, It is best to bring a dummy with you, even if your baby is not using one as some babies require the comfort of a dummy whilst being placed into position, and this can help cut down the time taken to soothe your baby.
If you haven’t used a dummy with your baby yet, rest assured that using one for a few minutes during your session is unlikely to cause nipple or feeding confusion, but if you don’t want me to use a dummy, of course, we won’t.
CAN I TAKE SOME PHOTOS WITH MY PHONE?
I want you to be able to enjoy your experience and not worry about taking photos, that’s why you have hired me of course, but with that being said you are welcome to take a couple of behind-the-scenes photos of me photographing your baby during your session to remember this special time in your baby’s life, however, these shouldn’t be close-ups of just the baby in a set up as these are the images you have paid me to take and a phone photo will not do them justice!
Please do not take any photos of any other elements within the cabin, both for privacy reasons but more so as seeing the cabin for the first time is all part of the experience of booking a session with Rachael Phillips Photography, so we like to keep some details a nice surprise for future clients.
HOW WILL I CHOOSE FROM MY GALLERY?
I won’t lie, sometimes this is a tough one, I have a few packages that are available to you with beautiful wall artwork to have in your home, there are many options to showcase your images and I shall talk you through and also show you products.

I won’t lie, sometimes this is a tough one, I have a few packages that are available to you with beautiful wall artwork to have in your home, there are many options to showcase your images and I shall talk you through and also show you products.
DO YOU EDIT THE PHOTOS?
I do indeed – any photographs you choose will be edited.
During your session, I will likely take around 20-200 photos. This consists of numerous angles of each pose and often very similar images, re-takes due to blinks/eyes opening, focusing on different areas and so on. Some photos are a composite and will be two or three photos made into one image.
Using my creative discretion, I delicately edit the images you have chosen, these are edited at my discretion and in my style, will including removing unsightly blemishes, colour correcting, detail enhancement and creative development to create the final photo which you will be able to then showcase in your home.
