Why choose me as your newborn photographer in Nottingham?

As a mum myself, I know just how fast those early days fly by. One minute, they’re teeny tiny, and before you know it, they’ve changed completely. That’s why capturing these moments properly is so important, because before long, those newborn snuggles will be just a memory.
That’s where I come in! As an award-winning newborn photographer in Mansfield, Nottingham, I specialise in creating beautiful, natural, and timeless portraits that you’ll treasure forever. My warm and relaxed approach means you can sit back, enjoy the experience, and know that I’ll take care of everything, so you walk away with stunning photographs that truly capture your baby’s first days.
The best time for those snuggly, curly newborn poses is within the first 5–16 days, while they’re still curled up just like they were in the womb. But don’t worry if your baby is a little older, I have plenty of experience working with babies of all ages and will still create gorgeous keepsake images for you.
📷 If your little one is a bit older, a sitter session might be perfect for you! Check out my Older Baby Photography for babies who are sitting up and showing off their personalities.

Every newborn session is completely tailored to you

Before the session, I’ll have a quick chat with you about your home, colour preferences, and the photography style you love. Whether you’re into soft neutrals, pops of colour, or something classic, we’ll create a look that feels personal and perfectly ‘you’.
On the day, my Mansfield studio is warm, cosy, and ready to welcome your little one. I’ve got a stunning collection of props, blankets, hats, headbands, and baskets to style your session beautifully. If there’s something sentimental you’d love to include, like a special blanket or teddy, just let me know in advance!
And of course, family shots are always welcome! Parents and siblings can join in for those heartfelt, snuggly moments. We’ll plan outfits in advance so you all look amazing together, and I’ll make sure everything is set up for a relaxed, stress-free experience.

Newborn FAQ

When Should I Book?

I recommend booking your newborn session once you’ve had your 20-week scan.

We can pencil in a date based on your due date, and we can always adjust it once your little one arrives.

Try not to leave things until your baby is born, as spaces can be limited, and I often schedule other work around my clients’ due dates. Booking in advance will guarantee you a slot and give you peace of mind that we won’t miss out!

What Can I Expect from the Session?

Newborn sessions are relaxed and slow-paced, as I work around your baby’s needs. Ideally, we’ll want your little one to be awake when you arrive and ready for a big feed—this will help them drift off into a peaceful, long sleep for the photos!

My style combines posed shots and more natural images, using beautiful props like wraps, bonnets, hairbands, soft animals, and hearts. I also have bowls and buckets to create those adorable setups.

I’ll photograph your baby both in props and on my beanbag, capturing them in comfortable and safe poses. If you’d prefer a more minimalist approach, we can absolutely skip the props and keep it super simple.

I Had a C-Section and I’m Still Sore, How Will I Be Comfortable at the Session?

First of all, take it easy—your comfort is my top priority. If you’re having any mobility issues, please feel free to bring someone along to help you during the session.

In my studio, I have plenty of seating options and soft blankets to help make you as comfortable as possible. If you need to raise your feet, I can provide a footstool, or if you have a special cushion that helps alleviate pressure, feel free to bring it with you. We’ll make sure you’re supported and relaxed throughout the session!

Absolutely!

I love involving siblings in the photos—it’s such a special way to capture the family’s bond. No matter how many little ones you have, we can make it work.

The studio is on the smaller side, so to make sure we’re all comfortable, we can discuss your situation during booking. It might be easier to have your older children join us either at the beginning or end of the session to minimise any disruption to your baby’s sleep. We’ll make sure everything flows smoothly and that everyone has a chance to be in the photos!

Great question!

While phone cameras have certainly come a long way, professional newborn photography goes far beyond just having a good camera. It’s about patience, attention to detail, styling, and, most importantly, safety—things that come with years of experience.

I know exactly how to position your baby safely, while capturing their tiny features like those little fingers, curled toes, and delicate expressions that phones simply can’t pick up. I use specialised lighting and lenses to really enhance your baby’s features, making those moments look as perfect as they feel.

I also focus on the small details—like soothing your baby, straightening fingers, and crossing feet—all things that sleep-deprived mums and dads might miss. While phone photos are great for everyday moments, professional newborn photography creates high-quality, beautifully crafted images that you’ll want to treasure in your album or display on your walls for years to come.

In short, professional photography gives you stunning images without you needing to lift a finger, leaving you with memories that truly capture the magic.

It’s completely normal for babies to have moments where they’re a bit unsettled. If your little one isn’t settling, don’t worry—it doesn’t usually last the entire session! If soothing, feeding, and winding don’t seem to help, it’s possible they might be coming down with something, in which case, we can always reschedule your session to a later date.

However, more often than not, with a little time, patience, and perseverance, all babies will settle and we’ll be able to create beautiful images—whether they’re awake or asleep. Every baby is different, but I’m here to make sure we capture your baby’s best moments, no matter how they’re feeling on the day!

Not at all! Baby marks, such as scratches from tiny nails, forceps marks, or baby acne, are all completely natural and part of the newborn stage. These little imperfections will be delicately removed during post-processing as part of the editing process.

However, I tend to leave some natural details like flaky skin on hands and feet, as these are sweet, unique touches that will remind you of those early days when you look back at the photos. When we meet, we’ll chat about what you’d like to highlight in the images and whether there are any details you’d prefer to be softened or removed. My goal is to ensure you love every detail of your baby’s portraits!

Once your order has arrived and been carefully checked, I’ll get in touch to arrange a collection appointment. If you’re local, I can even hand-deliver larger orders to ensure they arrive safely and without any damage. We’ll discuss the details of delivery or collection when you place your order to make sure everything works best for you.

Absolutely! Your baby’s safety is my number one priority.

I take every measure to ensure your little one is comfortable and secure throughout the session. I never put your baby into poses that could be uncomfortable or unsafe, and I always follow strict safety guidelines. For poses that may look like your baby is supporting their own weight, I create composites of images to ensure they’re fully supported and safe at all times.

I handle your baby gently, taking my time and never rushing. If at any point your baby shows signs of discomfort, I’ll stop that pose immediately. I’m always monitoring their colouring, circulation, and breathing to make sure they’re perfectly safe and happy. Your baby’s wellbeing is my top priority throughout the entire session.

You’ll receive a pre-guide with all the details, but here’s a bit of info to help you get ready:

  • For breastfeeding mums: I recommend avoiding spicy, acidic, or gassy foods for 24 hours before the session. This can help keep your baby as settled and comfortable as possible during the shoot.
  • Keep your baby awake: Try to keep your little one awake for as long as possible before the session so that they’re ready for a big feed when you arrive. A nice, full tummy helps them settle into a deep sleep, which is ideal for those adorable sleepy poses.
  • Dress your baby simply: Dress your baby in something easy to remove, and make sure their nappy is as loose as possible to avoid marks on their skin.

By following these simple steps, we’ll be able to make the most of your session and capture those beautiful newborn moments!

I have a wide selection of wraps, outfits, and props that help create my signature style of imagery, which is probably why you’re considering booking with me! I’ll mainly use these items to create the beautiful, timeless photos you’ll love. I like to keep things simple and avoid using large props, but if you’d like to include something special, we can always discuss this beforehand.

If you have any sentimental items—perhaps something someone has gifted you, a teddy, a favourite outfit, or even something from your wedding day—please bring them along. I’d love to incorporate these personal touches into the shoot to create imagery that’s unique and meaningful to your family

If possible, it’s a good idea to bring a dummy with you, even if your baby isn’t using one regularly. Some babies find comfort in having one during the session, especially when they’re being placed into different positions, and it can help soothe them more quickly, which makes the session smoother for everyone.

If your baby hasn’t used a dummy yet, don’t worry! Using one for a few minutes during the session won’t cause any feeding or nipple confusion. But if you’d prefer, I don’t use one, that’s absolutely fine—we’ll work without it! It’s all about what makes you and your baby feel most comfortable.

I totally get that you’ll want to capture some moments from your session, and I’m all for a few behind-the-scenes snaps of me photographing your baby! It’s a lovely way to remember this special experience.

However, I’d prefer that you don’t take close-up photos of your baby in any of the setups. These are the professional shots you’ve hired me for, and a phone photo simply won’t do them justice.

Also, to keep the experience as fresh and exciting as possible for future clients, please refrain from taking photos of other elements in the studio. It’s all part of the fun surprise when you come in! Just sit back, relax, and let me do the rest.

I won’t sugarcoat it—this part can be tough! But don’t worry; I’m here to guide you through it. You’ll have access to a range of packages, each with beautiful wall artwork and other products to showcase your precious images at home.

I’ll talk you through all the options, help you explore the different ways to display your favourites, and even show you samples of the products. Together, we’ll choose the perfect way to display your beautiful photos in your home. No stress, I’ve got your back!

Absolutely!
All the photographs you choose will be edited with care and attention. During your session, I’ll capture a wide range of photos—around 20–200—covering various angles, different expressions, and retakes to get everything just right. Some of the photos may even be composites, combining two or three images into one beautiful shot.

Once you’ve selected your favourites, I’ll use my creative discretion to edit them in my unique style. This includes removing blemishes, colour correcting, enhancing details, and adding creative touches to make sure the final images are absolutely stunning—ready for you to showcase in your home.
